Additional information

V9 and v10 LA chip syndrome.
It is a well documented fact that the latest v9 and v10 machines suffer from a major problem. The LA chip has a tendency to die. After it dies, the only solution to get your machine working again is to replace the chip with an original LA6508 or a device called LA6508 RII. However, in both cases, it is quite a hard soldering job. (much harder than to install a chip). The following can be done to reduce the chances of the LA 6508 chip dying. Again do not attempt the simple modification unless you know what you are doing.

The original article can be found at  http://cyber-mag.com/station/

Firstly - the prevention - by far easier than the cure:
1) Carefully lift Pin17 of the LA6508 Chip,
2) Ensure no solder links it to the pad it was just lifted from,
3) Link Pin17 to 5 volts as demonstrated in the picture below.

Bios?
-
It is your decision whether to flash it with a different bios. However, we do not recommend it though. This is because we believe for most people, there is really no need for it.
(However, due to restrictions of certain countries. Your chip might not come with a working bios.)

What do I have to add to evox.ini?
- The latest version of EvolutionX should already contain the relevant information.

ie.
0x01d5,"AMD - Am29F080B",0x100000
0x04d5,"FUJITSU - MBM29F080A",0x100000

Memory Banks

Bank 0

Bank 0 contains the latest Cromwell bios. To flash it we would usually recommend the Eurasia generic pro flash disc. And please note that you will need a 512KB bios (ie 2 X 256KB of the same bios since most bios are only 256KB)

1.6 -1.6b machines will need the m8+ 1.6 bios.

1.0-1.5 machines can use either the m8+ bios (non 1.6) or the Xecuter 4983 bios.

Or you should be able to use this bios for running xbox linux.

Further details regarding linux and xbox in general can be found at www.xbox-scene.com and at www.xbox-linux.org

Bank 1

Bank 1 contains the latest FlashBios (3.03-1). Please note that you will need a 512KB bios (ie 2 X 256KB of the same bios since most bios are only 256KB)

1.6 -1.6b machines will need the m8+ 1.6 bios.

1.0-1.5 machines can use either the m8+ bios (non 1.6) or the Xecuter 4983 bios.

FlashBios tutorial can be found at the following website.

http://www.teamxecuter.com/flashbios/

How to use FlashBIOS:

Step 1 - Creating the Bios CD:

- Ensure that the bios file you wish to use of an appropriate size for your modchip. ( 512KB in this case)

- Make a copy of the bios file you wish to use and rename this copy to BIOS.BIN .

- Select a CD or DVD media compatible with your XBox's DVD-Rom. (Most CDRW will work and most DVD-R will work. If you have a Samsung Drive then some CD-R will work)

- Burn the BIOS.BIN file onto a CD. (For Nero select the following settings, No Multisession, ISO Level 1, Format Mode 1, ISO 9660, Deselect Joliet, Finalize CD, Disc-At-Once)

- You should add a dummy file to the CD to ensure it is read properly by the XBOX. We have enclosed a dummy file creator with this release. We recommend 100MB.

Step 2 - Flashing with FlashBIOS (Cromwell):

- Turn your XBox console ON, when the DVD-Rom tray ejects please insert your BIOS.BIN CD and close the tray.

- When the flashing procedure is complete the XBox will shut down.

Warning about upgrading the Wii.

Please be careful when a game ask you to upgrade firmware. This is because if the game is an import, the import upgrade firmware can render your machine unusable. The following is a link to a website that helps you to reduce the chance of rendering your machine unusable. It contains a list of what import games can be used for upgrade and also a list of what import games might work on your mahcine. However, there are sometimes mistakes on that list. So be careful with firmware upgrades.

Special Note: current version of DuoWii does not support the backup version of Super Mario Galaxy. However, the origina should work fine in disable mode. If in the future there is a way around this problem, the solution will be announced here.

0xadd5," HYUNDAI - HY29F080",0x100000

Xbox Live?
- If you ever log onto Xbox Live with the chip enabled. That particular xbox  eeprom  would then be banned permanently.
